There are just three species of the impressive Sequoioideae in the world today. All of them are represented in Kannenfeldpark. As is the butternut, an American relative of the walnut. By the way this tree produces a natural herbicide, which inhibits the growth of apple trees, which is why the two should not be planted together. The katsura is attractive with its pink blossoms that appear in spring before the leaves emerge. As it emits a slight scent of caramel during leaf fall it is also sometimes known as the caramel tree.
\nMore than 800 trees and 190 different species and varieties, native and otherwise, well-known and unfamiliar, are all waiting to be discovered in Kannenfeldpark.
