Fontana Renews the Rose Garden in Kannenfeldpark Basel

The rose garden, a traditional flower garden and quiet place of retreat within the popular Kannenfeldpark in Basel, had become a bit long in the tooth. The plants, paths, pergola and the overall aesthetic appearance needed freshening up.

The redesign of the rose garden as implemented by Fontana Landschaftsarchitektur maintains the garden’s fundamental structures and gives them a new face by implementing a contemporary interpretation of the rose motif: what was once a pure rose garden has been enriched by the addition of grasses and shrubs. The planting concept is such that the rose garden will be in bloom for nine months of the year.

Vegetation structures will keep the garden attractive in autumn and winter too. In addition to the planting the paths were repaved with the old slabs, the pool was refurbished and the pergola renewed. The old garden has been resplendent with a new-found shine and new flowers since June 2017.
