Liestal’s Next Step for Its New Park on the Orisbach River
The competition entry made by Christ & Gantenbein and Fontana Landschaftsarchitektur for Liestal’s Postplatz was the winning one in 2016 not least because of its idea of a park by the water. The new post-office building facing Bahnhofsplatz made the necessary space available to liberate the Orisbach from its pipes and transform it into the blue heart of a small urban park that is simultaneously an attractive slow-transport axis and connection between the station and the old town.
The project has since been made concrete. The building has been given new dimensions, while the park and the slow-transport axes were shifted further to the core of the plans. In June 2018 the town of Liestal presented the current state of affairs to the residents. The consultation process is to begin at the end of 2018. The goal is to have the plans for the Orisbach redevelopment approved by 2020. The outside space will play a significant role here. Fontana Landschaftsarchitektur would be pleased to make the new blue and green heart of Liestal a reality.
