Birth of an Island – Anthos 4/2017

Flood protection? That sounds like dams and sandbags. But that is not the case on Schüssinsel, which Fontana Landschaftsarchitektur designed in Biel. In this example the flood protection embankment is a formative and – thanks to its self-evident nature – invisible element of an island park whose size and shape change depending on the water level.
