Urban Wanderer Loderer on the Schüss Island

Biel has had a new island since 2017: the Schüss Island. Fontana Landschaftsarchitektur accompanied and planned the creation of this new piece of land in the town from the first concrete idea via various expansions of the perimeter all the way to its implementation. We let Benedikt do the talking and we are happy that our island has got a positive review from the urban wanderer: ‘There isn’t too much of anything. The island is allowed to be an island. It’s not a park that’s been stuffed to the brink. It is self-evident and casual. Large enough for a deep breath. The island has not been designed, it has been styled. Fish are swimming in the Schüss again.’ Those are the sentences with which Benedikt Loderer rounds off his project review in the current Hochparterre 9/17.
