Steinbühlmätteli Opening: Old Basel Park Shines in New Splendour

The Steinbühlmätteli park in Basel was created in the 1940s and even then this venue had a playground and a manmade pond. Over the years the park’s usage impacted its form – the playground grew in significance and dominance, while the park’s basic design remained. In 2015 Fontana Landschaftsarchitektur won the study contract for a complete overhaul; now, on 3 September 2021, the reopening will take place. By then the newly established lawn should have grown in nicely.

The fundamental structures of the historical park and its valuable old trees have been preserved. The redesign used this basis to create a space that is fit for modern life and its requirements. It also expanded it by an exciting play landscape that plays with the topography. We are pleased to hand over the new park to the residents. Play can continue!
