Successful competition: „Meet“, Airport City Zürich
“Meet” is to be the forerunner of a completely new type of urban development: the iconic, suburban centre that combines work, shopping, sport, culture, health services and much more, and does not close itself off like a mall, but opens up and responds to its surroundings.
The winning design by Fujimoto and Fontana convinced the jury with its “Meet in the forest” concept, which unites outdoor space and building structure into a permeable mesh and connects it to the banks of the Glatt.
With teams such as Libeskind/Vogt or KCAP/Rotzler, the international field of applicants presented a variety of interesting proposals. “Meet in the forest” stood out with an innovative yet realistic approach in which the landscape plays an important role. Coop, which commissioned the study, is now in talks with investors and hopes to start construction in 2023.
